An Aftershoot alternative without a subscription
Aftershoot details from Aftershoot’s own website, October 2026.
Aftershoot is a popular AI culling tool, and it runs on your own computer, like Cullstack. The two differ in how you pay and in who makes the final call. This page lays out both honestly, including when Aftershoot is the better choice.

Where Cullstack is different
- Pay once. A perpetual license: pay once, get 12 months of upgrades and updates, and keep the latest version forever. Nothing is ever charged automatically.
- You make every call. The AI points at blinks, blur and duplicate frames, so you get through a shoot faster, but it never picks the keepers for you.
- Your photos stay where they are: on a card, a drive, a NAS, a server or a cloud folder.
- Linux too, on the same license, and a free tier that never expires.
Where Aftershoot is the better fit
- You want the AI to choose. If you shoot many similar events and trust a trained model to make the first selection, Aftershoot is built for that.
- AI editing in the same app. Aftershoot also offers AI editing and retouching. Cullstack culls and organizes; for editing it works alongside Lightroom and other editors.
Try it on your own shoot
Cull your next shoot in Cullstack and see whether its help is enough for you. The free tier never expires, and the 30-day trial unlocks everything, with no credit card.
